J. Karjalainen, who began his recording career in 1981, is one of Finland’s most well-known singers, songwriters, and distinctive artists. He has adapted the American musical tradition to Finnish conditions in his own way and has always been in a class of his own, regardless of which part of the musical treasure chest he has explored.

J. Karjalainen’s songs, such as Kolme cowboyta, Ankkurinappi, Doris, Sekaisin, Hän, Mies jolle ei koskaan tapahdu mitään, Telepatiaa, Villejä lupiineja, Missä se Väinö on?, Mennyt mies, Stindebinde, and many more, hold an established place in Finnish music history.

In 2022, J. Karjalainen gave an acclaimed concert at a sold-out Helsinki Ice Hall in connection with the release of the album Soulavaris. His latest studio album, Suomalaista muotoiluu, released in 2025, has received positive reviews.
